Taichung Train Station is located in the old downtown area of Taichung (Central District), and is the entrance to Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou with extremely convenient transportation. The old downtown area has gradually declined as the downtown area gradually moved west. Buses began to compete with the railway, which was impacted again by the opening of THSR Taichung Station, but the train station remains one of the main transportation hubs in Central Taiwan. Taichung Train Station was designed by TatsunoKingo (the same architect who designed the Maronouchi Building of Tokyo Station), who was among one of the first generation of Japanese architects to study in England, with a classic architectural style of England, and has now been listed as a class II national historic site.
